The Firm boasts of some of the leading Intellectual Property and innovation experts in Africa with a global reputation. We provide expert advice on the innovation ecosystem as well as registration of copyrights, patents, trademarks, industrial designs and utility models both in Kenya and through the international and regional protections systems, including those administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). We also represent our clients during IP-related negotiations such as in licensing, transfer, and assignment negotiations. We bring a unique perspective to the development and implementation of IP strategies for startups and established firms as well as on regional and international developments on IP policy and law.

We also advise international investors and businesses who are new entrants to the Kenyan and African markets on the IP protection and regulatory framework as well as the state of play with respect to case law.

In the area of Trade, we provide expertise on the different disciplines of international and regional trade agreements and frameworks, including with respect to the World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements and the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AcFTA).

The Firm advises and supports governments, regional and international organizations, and private sector players. We also have expertise and significant experience in international and regional trade negotiations.

In the field of Energy, the Firm advises a wide range of domestic and international market players in the fast-growing sectors of renewable energy as well as in the traditional, oil and gas sector. We have advised and supported clients on day-to-day operational legal matters and with respect to project structuring, regulatory matters, technology, land rights as well as community engagements and stakeholder management.

Our IP, Trade and Energy Practice Group is led by Mr. Sisule Musungu as the Team Leader. The other members in the practice are Chege Waitara, Andrew Mwango, Mutua Mutuku, and Wangechi Wahome.
